A pragmatic simulation of karst spring discharge with semi- distributed models. Advantages and limits for assessing the effect of climate change

چکیده
A hydrological semi-distributed model for simulating karst springs discharge is presented and applied to the Flims case study (Graubünden) and the Milandrine underground river (Jura). This model used for flood prediction and management in river basins has been adapted to karst flow and springs. The model takes into account snowmelt, glacier melt, soil infiltration, evapotranspiration as well as flood routing in surface rivers, sinkholes, and fast and slow flows in underground reservoirs. The Flims karst system is composed of three springs at three different levels: Lag Tiert, Tunnel spring and Pulté spring. In 2002, flows in the system were disturbed by the drilling of a highway tunnel. After a long work of development the model is now able to simulate the discharge rate of these three springs. It allows us to evaluate the effect of the tunnel drilling and the potential effect of the climate change. The first results for the Milandrine River are not as good as the ones of Flims because the simulation of the recharge through the soil and of complex storage processes in the cave conduits is not very easy with the selected approach.

Trend Analysis of the Streamflow in the Lighvan River hydrometric Stations (Upstream and Downstream)
In recent years, rivers flows have significantly decreased due to regional or global climate change and human activities especially in the arid and semi-arid regions. In this study, the effect of climate change and human activities on the runoff responses was examined using hydrologic model simulation in the Lighvan basin located in the northwest of Iran. For determination of hydrologic model M...
متن کاملA gray system model for studying the response to climatic change: The Liulin karst springs, China
Gray system theory uses a black-gray-white color spectrum to describe a complex system whose characteristics are only partially known or known with uncertainty. In this study, we use gray system theory to investigate the relation between precipitation and spring flows in a karst region in China. The gray incidence analysis was applied to the Liulin Springs, Shanxi Province, China to analyze the...
متن کاملResponse of karst springs to climate change and anthropogenic activities: the Niangziguan Springs, China
Discharge from the largest karst spring in north China, the Niangziguan Springs, has been declining since the 1950s. This paper examines the response of these springs to climatic change and anthropogenic infl uence by attempting a model-based discrimination between phases in the stream discharge record. In Niangziguan Springs Basin, the exploitation of karst groundwater began in 1979. According...
